It is similar to shows like “Mountain Men” and “Life Below Zero.” It offers a sense of realism and people-geared entertainment that the typical survival genre does not. Shows like “Survivor,” “Alone,” and “Survivorman” teach and show people how to live off the wild.
Shows like “Alaskan Bush People” are just documenting the lives of people who were already doing so. The show is a scripted docudrama-style reality series.
Recently, the Brown family suffered great losses. Their home was lost during the 2020 Washington wildfires. Then on Feb. 7, Billy Brown passed away from a seizure.
A lot happens in the show while the family hunts and survives. Luckily, you can watch it even if you don’t have cable.

You can watch the show on Discovery GO online. It requires subscribing in order to watch the show ad-free. However, there are also extras to watch on Discovery GO. For example, there is a collection of clips titled “Remember Billy Brown.”
“Alaskan Bush People” can also be watched on FuboTV, Sling, Philo, and Hulu + Live.
The show has been on for 12 seasons. It started out near Hoonah, Alaska and the family later moved to Okanogan County, Washington.
The most recent season talks a lot about the Palmer Fire. The family of nine works to survive and thrive under new growing conditions.
Past and Future of ‘Alaskan Bush People’
Ami Brown, the mother of the family, also suffered from health issues. According to People, in 2017 she was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer.
“Walking from the house to the garden, I would get winded. There were days I was just bedridden, but I just thought it was my arthritis. We were filming the show and at times it was all I could do to just stand there — I was in so much pain. When we were shooting promo shots I told them, ‘There’s something wrong.’ In December [2016] I went to the dentist to get impressions made for new teeth and when they did a scan they noticed a little capsule. That’s how this all started,” Ami said to People.
The family relocated to Washington after the diagnosis. Eventually, Ami was told she was cancer-free in 2018.
So far there is no news regarding cancellation or continued writing for “Alaskan Bush People” following the death of Billy Brown.
