Miley Cyrus Releases New Album, Plastic Hearts
At the stroke of midnight, Cyrus released her seventh album. It includes collaborations with legendary stars such as Dua Lipa, Billy Idol, and Joan Jett. A longtime friend of the family, Stevie Nicks is also featured on Cyrus’ midnight sky remix of Nick’s “Edge of Seventeen.”
Miley Cyrus pairs her easily recognizable voice with an edgy, classic rock-inspired vibe. The album takes influence from the music of the 1980s. This is evident in her track “Night Crawler,” featuring Billy Idol. In a recent interview, Miley describes how Idol’s works inspired her album and new-found attitude.
“His music… the way that he married rebellion but also his music where he had incredible hooks. And he showed me that I could have balance, that I could make music that I and other people love,” she said. “And sometimes I’ve lost that and I’ve found that again where it’s like, ‘I want to make music for me.”
In addition to Cyrus’ original, she also includes Blondie’s “Heart of Glass.” She gave a powerful performance of the cover at the iHeart Radio Festival in 2020.
The standout track off the album, “Midnight Sky,” features 1980s flamboyance, something Cyrus carelessly and confidently flaunts. No longer the Disney channel child star we knew her to be, Plastic Hearts seems to be an artistic rebirth for the singer.
As of today, the album is available for streaming on platforms everywhere. Watch the music video for the hit single, “Prisoner” below.
