“Blue Bloods” star Donnie Wahlberg had just married actress Jenny McCarthy when he spoke to CBS This Morning in a 2014 interview.
The actor and musician told CBS that he and McCarthy were highly compatible. And he marveled at the fact that the two hadn’t met earlier.
“Her and I sort of came around in the same era, and [have] both, you know, gone through divorces and gone through so many similarities, both professionally and personally,” Wahlberg said. “And to discover each other, really for the first time, in our 40s – we never really met through all those years. We just hit it off, yeah. And very similar sort of mentalities and spirituality, and very similar philosophies. I think we have so much in common that it just, it’s a really wonderful fit and I think we complement each other very well.”

‘Blue Bloods’ Star and McCarthy Were Both Divorcees
Wahlberg had been married to Kim Fey from 1999 to 2008, during which time they had two sons, Xavier and Elijah. And McCarthy had been married to John Asher – with whom she had one son, Evan – from 2000 to 2005. She would go on to date actor Jim Carrey for several years, per E! Online.
McCarthy and Wahlberg fatefully crossed paths in 2013 when Wahlberg appeared as a guest on McCarthy’s VH1 talk show. They had instant chemistry. So she gave him her phone number, and two weeks later, he called her back.
They took things slow at first, but by April of 2014, the two were engaged. Wahlberg enlisted Evan’s help with the proposal, getting Evan to help him bring out a series of cards that read, ‘Will,’ ‘you,’ ‘marry’ and ‘me?’
They got married that August, at the same hotel in St. Charles, Illinois where they’d made their relationship red carpet official at a fundraiser for her son’s school. Evan walked McCarthy down the aisle.
McCarthy Said ‘I Love You’ When They Barely Knew Each Other
The “Blue Bloods” star was the first to say “I love you” within the context of their relationship. But actually, McCarthy admitted, she said those words before she even gave Wahlberg her number.
“When I looked back and watched the Jenny McCarthy Show on VH1, and we did the groundbreaking interview, which I laid down with Donnie on a pillow and interviewed him, and re-watched it, and literally you guys, it’s like the way we’re talking right now,” McCarthy said when she had Wahlberg on her Sirius XM radio show last year. “It was like we’d been married for six years, and I literally said to him, I go, ‘I love you, Donnie Wahlberg.’ Like, but it wasn’t like ‘Oh, I love you, I’m a fan!’ it was like, ‘I love you Donnie Wahlberg,’ it was crazy.”
Wahlberg added that their chemistry hasn’t changed a bit since that charged interview. He said the couple were “exactly the same” years later as they were on that day.
