Let’s combine our two favorite things, food, and “Blue Bloods.” Well, one of the stars of the series, Bridget Moynahan, has you covered.
Anyone that has watched “Blue Bloods” knows that the Sunday dinners are a classic and staple in the show. Additionally, the sense of calmness and family is a fan favorite.
‘Blue Bloods’ Cookbook
Bridget Moynahan, the actress who plays Erin Reagan in the hit police drama, wanted the fans to have a piece of the “Blue Bloods” Sunday dinner for themselves. With the creation of Moynahan’s cookbook, viewers can now eat a delicious meal while also catching up on the series. It’s almost as if you are there.
In a 2017 interview with 92nd Street Y, Bridget Moynahan addresses where she got the inspiration for the cookbook.
“I grew up in a home where we would have dinner together every single night,” reveals the 50-year-old actress and model. “We would have family dinners for every single holiday, so it’s totally normal for me to be doing that. I grew up cooking with my mom, and my aunt and my brothers are cooks, so it was, you know. That was the kind of environment I grew up in.”
The “Blue Bloods” actress continues, explaining how it has affected the fans at home and their family dynamic.
“But I do think that people watching the show, we were speaking about it today, it’s a group of people who wish that was their life. It is a group of people who remember that being their life, and we’ve heard from people that are now starting that to be their life, and they do it on Friday nights. And then they roll into Blue Bloods, and so they are making kind of a little event, so you know.”
The Painting That Inspired the Dinners
Len Cariou, who plays Henry Reagan, also chimes in to give some background on the notorious Sunday dinners. Carious references a 1940s painting as the vision behind the “Blood Blues” gathering.
“You know where this came from?” asks Cariou. “It was Leonard Goldberg, [he] saw– there is a drawing by Norman Rockwell of a Thanksgiving dinner, and that was his inspiration. And he said I want to have a dinner scene in every episode. That will be the glue. That’ll bring it all together after we’ve seen what Donnie does and what Will does and what Pop does and what Tom does, and then we will get it around the table and try and educate the kids too. Give them a little perspective. So, it was really interesting to me that that was his inspiration.”
For reference, we did some digging to find the Normal Rockwell photo in question. I don’t know about you, but it looks pretty spot on to me!
