It’s almost impossible not to know a handful of Elvis Presley songs. Tunes like “Jailhouse Rock,” “Blue Christmas,” and “Blue Suede Shoes,” come to mind. Those are tunes that you’re aware of even if you aren’t an Elvis fan.

Elvis Presley didn’t write “Blue Suede Shoes,” nor did he take it to the top of the charts. Carl Perkins did both of those things just months before The King cut it for his debut album.

However, Elvis’ version of the song is the one that remains famous today. Sadly, there are probably a number of people who just said to themselves, “Carl who?”

In the song, Elvis Presley says there are a number of things you can do as long as you don’t step on his blue suede shoes. You can burn his house down, slander his name, drink all his booze, or whatever you want to do. However, you had better watch where you step.

Elvis Presley did, however, have his own pair of custom-made blue suede shoes.

Elvis Presley Really Had Blue Suede Shoes

Elvis Presley had a real pair of blue suede shoes. They were cap-toe lace-up shoes with blue laces and black soles, according to Footwear News.

It seemed that Elvis loved the shoes. He wore them often in his daily life as well as on stage. After The King came back from the military in 1960, he gifted the shoes to his road manager and close friend Joe Esposito.

Decades later, The King’s iconic blue suede shoes were on display at the now-defunct Elvis-A-Rama museum in Las Vegas in the 1990s. In 2013 the shoes sold at an auction for $75,000. According to the certificate of authenticity that came with the iconic footwear, they were the only pair of their kind ever made at the time.

However, Elvis Presley’s influence touched even the world of fashion. Which isn’t surprising. The King helped change the face of music. His fashion sense was as iconic as the music he released. So it stands to reason that his music and fashion sense would come together to influence the creation of several different lines of blue suede shoes.

For instance, Hush Puppies and Memphis-based Lansky Bros. introduced a line of blue suede lace-up shoes in 2010. That was a natural pairing. Hush Puppies is known for their comfortable shoes. At the same time, Lansky Bros. founder Bernard Lansky helped to keep The King looking royally sharp for the duration of his career.

Such is the power of Elvis Presley. He covered a song about blue suede shoes. As a result, fans have wanted to step into a pair for decades. Anybody can find a pair of blue suede lace-ups today. However, no one will ever fill The King’s shoes.
