Even incredible “Jeopardy! champions like Matt Amodio have their flaws. He may know his trivia inside and out and have insane buzzer reflexes, but Amodio apparently isn’t blessed with musical talent.
The sensational player fessed up to his lack of skill in a recent tweet. Amodio likes to interact with his growing fanbase and fellow game show contestants on Twitter. One of his recent competitors, Angelica Wilcox, posted a gorgeous video featuring her beautiful voice and ukelele playing.
Amodio quote tweeted the video and complimented the former “Jeopardy!” contestant. “So good!! I am very lucky our #Jeopardy game was not a contest of musical talent,” Amodio wrote.
If Amodio really wanted to (or had the ability to) compete in a singing competition, there’s no shortage of ones for him to choose from. Luckily for us, he decided to give “Jeopardy!” a shot and just break record after record on the show.
As of right now, Amodio’s won 33 straight games and snatched the second-highest record for consecutive wins. He beat out 2019 champ James Holzhauer, and now only his idol Ken Jennings stands in Amodio’s way of being on top.
Amodio just beat out Holzhauer’s record of 32 wins on Friday. Holzhauer congratulated Amodio on Twiter (albeit while still ribbing on him), leading Amodio to offer up this humble response. “I am so proud that a cursory glance of the #Jeopardy record books can now yield a wrong conclusion about which one of us is the better player.”
The current “Jeopardy!” champ keeps telling people that Holzhauer’s the better player, even though Amodio’s officially beaten his record. Although, Holzhauer still holds the top 10 spots for highest winnings in a single game. Amodio would need to earn almost $90,000 in one game to even break onto that leaderboard.
‘Jeopardy!’ Champion Matt Amodio Stays Humble Throughout Process
Too much success and fame can easily go to one’s head, but “Jeopardy!” champion Matt Amodio’s done a good job keeping his feet firmly on the ground. The trivia show legend spoke to Newsweek recently about everyone comparing him to James Holzhauer, who he still calls the better player.
“It feels unbelievable. Literally, unbelievable,” Amodio said. “I watched every second of James tearing through the competition, and I knew he was better than I could ever be. I still know he’s better than me, but to know I’ve tied him in the most important stat of the show (number of games won), I feel so fortunate.”
For context, Amodio did this interview before he overtook Holzhauer’s record last Friday.
The “Jeopardy!” champ also doesn’t have plans to blow through his $1.2 million earnings anytime soon. But what does he plan on doing with the money?
“I know it’s a boring answer, but I’m going to save and invest it,” he said. “The future is full of uncertainties, and I am going to be fortunate enough to have security going forward. My friends and family have all commented that they do not know anybody who would change their lifestyle less than me after a life-changing influx of money.”
