We’re nearing the final stretch of “Jeopardy!” guest hosts.
Tonight, July 16, will be the last night behind the hosting podium for George Stephanopoulos. Unlike the other hosts so far, he was only a guest host on the show for a single week.
As we’re nearing an end, the last of the hosts will appear for one week. This likely means a decision for the full-time host is coming soon, as well as filming for the next season of the show.
Robin Roberts As Guest Host of ‘Jeopardy!’
The next host will be Robin Roberts from July 19 to July 23.
She is a co-anchor on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” She’s been heavily rewarded for her career on TV. She earned the very prestigious Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism as well as the George Foster Peabody Award, and a Gracie Award.
Her name is forever present in the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame as well as the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame. She even has her own production company called Rock ‘n Robin Productions.
Clearly, Robin Roberts has plenty of experience on TV, making her an excellent choice for a guest host of “Jeopardy!”
She has also been celebrating after learning her TV movie “Robin Roberts Presents: Mahalia” has been nominated for an Emmy Award. She wrote on Instagram, “I’m so proud of the recognition the phenomenal Mahalia cast and crew are receiving – an Emmy nomination!”
After Robin Roberts, there will be three more guest hosts taking over — LeVar Burton, David Faber, and Joe Buck.
Full-Time Host of Show
The deeper we get into the summer, the more “Jeopardy!” fans are eager to learn who the permanent host will be.
An announcement is anticipated for late July or early August. A decision has to come before filming for season 38 begins.
“We started talking about it internally that to name someone right away would be very hard for us because we were still reeling from the loss [of Alex Trebek. If on Friday it’s Alex’s last show and then Monday it’s a new person’s show, that would probably be unfair to the person stepping in to do it,” Executive Producer Mike Richards said on The Wall Street Journal’s podcast, “The Journal.”
The heads over at Sony will be making the nerve-wracking decision. In addition to fan reception, these individuals will be relying on some pretty intense testing.
“You want to make an informed decision. We want to go at this with real analytics and real testing and not just go, ‘Hey, how about this guy?’ which is kind of how a lot of these decisions have been made historically,” Richards said.
Several fans have selected their favorites from season 37. Many people are excited to see LeVar Burton step up for the role. He is a fan-favorite despite not even hosting yet.
