There is no question that Matt Amodio has put together an impressive streak over the past couple of months on the popular game show Jeopardy!.

Amodio is a 30-year-old Ph.D. student at Yale University. So, there’s no denying that he is a smart guy. Like many of the big-time Jeopardy! names before him, Amodio grew up watching the show and dreaming of one day being a winning contestant. Well, it’s safe to say he has blown those dreams and aspirations right out of the water.

Not only did Amodio make his way onto Jeopardy! he has been dominant ever since. And after Friday night’s game, he made history with his latest milestone. What’s that you ask? Amodio jumped over Jeopardy! legend James Holzhauer for the second-most consecutive wins of all time. He took to social media after the game to share some excitement with fans of the show.

“I’ve heard when #Jeopardy updates the official record books tomorrow, there’ll be a significant change that will make me feel very good about my accomplishments,” Amodio said.

Fans of Jeopardy! on Twitter, meanwhile, were quick to congratulate Amodio on his record-breaking win.

“Congratulations on beating James’ record and having the second-longest winning streak!” one fan wrote. “You’re amazing!”

Another fan pointed out just how unlikely and downright impressive Amodio’s streak has been.

“Your streak is significantly more impressive when considering the number of hosts that you have had to navigate through. They each have their own speed, cadence, etc. Winning 33 games of Jeopardy is ridiculous. Winning 33 games with different hosts has to be near impossible.”

‘Jeopardy!’ Star Needs 42 More Wins to Sit Alone in the Record Books

Let’s make no mistake about it — what Matt Amodio has done on his short stint on Jeopardy! has been absolutely wild. Friday’s win officially moved him into second place all-time with 33 wins. But how many does he need to overtake the man who’s in first place?

Well, that man is none other than Jeopardy! legend Ken Jennings. And if you recall, Jennings’ record for the most consecutive wins on the game show all time sits head and shoulders above everyone else at an astounding 74 wins. That means that Matt Amodio will need to win his next 42 wins if he wants to overtake first place for himself. Quite the tall task, yes. But if anyone seems like they have the chops to pull it off, it would be Amodio.

There’s no doubt that Matt Amodio is a trivia master. As a matter of fact, he’s easily one of the best the show has have seen. We covered in a previous Outsider story just how Amodio became the competitor that he is and what his strategy is on game days.
