Matthew McConaughey is a crazy talented individual who deserves every bit of praise. But maybe his best accomplishment is his marriage to the gorgeous and smart Camila Alves. Let’s be honest, marriage is no picnic. Especially when basically your every move is documented by some camera or news crew. So how does McConaughey keep the magic alive? By being honest, he says.
Since 2012, McConaughey and Alves have been taking on life together as a married couple. The two share three children together: Levi, Livingston and Vida. While they definitely have their fair share of disagreements, McConaughey said their love endures because they choose each other every day.
In an interview with Anna Farris on her podcast “Unqualified,” McConaughey opened up about what he loves about his wife. This includes the little imperfections that make her so unique, he says.
“She’s got this little chip on her front tooth, which leaves this beautiful gap,” he explained, via Yahoo! News. “She was going to go get it fixed one time and I said, ‘No way! I love that little chip right there on your tooth. That little shadow that’s on that side but not that side. I love it!’ “
Seeing his wife’s smile is one of McConaughey’s favorite things. And according to the Oscar winner, the little things are fundamental to a successful relationship.
Matthew McConaughey’s Perspective on Love and Life
“One of the great things about marriage, and it doesn’t always happen this way, but when you fall down, and you’re just dating, or someone does something you don’t like, you immediately go ‘This is a sign of things to come, I need to get out.’ You get married, you fall down, you don’t pull the parachute immediately,” he said. “You go ‘Hey, we’re in this to try and make this work.”
As if that’s not romantic enough, the “Dallas Buyers Club” actor says they make their marriage and relationship a priority. It’s something that the couple works on daily, despite their busy schedules.
Further, the actor says that the two encourage each other constantly to be themselves – not just what they’ve always been – but the best version.
“If you know the person really well, you may want them to change a little bit,” the actor added. “No one is perfect. But if you can root for them to be more themselves… that’s sort of a part of unconditional love, I think.”
McConaughey recently also discussed the possibility of getting into politics. The Texas native may have future plans to run against incumbent governor Greg Abbott. In a sample polling test, McConaughey actually was a few points ahead of the current conservative governor. While he would still pursue acting, the University of Texas at Austin professor says it’s a move he’s very seriously considering.
