The McDonald’s menu is heating up with the upcoming release of Spicy McNuggets.
McDonald’s New Spicy McNuggets Announcement
The fast-food giant made the big announcement on Tuesday (August 25). This will be the first time that the staple product has undergone a flavor update. The spicy version of the McNugget will feature their chicken with the deep-fried tempura coating along with cayenne and chili peppers.
The new Spicy McNuggets will arrive at select locations on September 16. Along with the new menu item, fans will be treated to a new dipping sauce. The Mighty Hot Sauce blends crushed peppers with spicy chilis. This is the first sauce release for the company in three years.
“As our customers have been asking for Spicy McNuggets for some time now, we couldn’t think of a better time to bring them to our menus,” Linda VanGosen, McDonald’s vice president of menu innovation, told the Today Show. “We can’t wait for McNuggets fans to get a taste of these new spicy options.”
In 1983 the McNuggets were born, by 2003 dark meat mixture McNuggets were no longer. Currently, the McNuggets are made with 100% white meat.
McDonald’s and the Coronavirus
Last month, McDonald’s announced that it will be closing 200 locations across the United States due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Most of the locations that will be closing are inside Walmart stores.
This quarter their sales dropped by 30 percent, seemingly due to the healthy and safety protocols due to the virus. The company briefly closed certain locations for safety and went to drive-through and delivery only before attempting to re-open select dining rooms with social distancing in place.
Overall, The Daily Mail reported that the company “suffered a 68 percent drop in profits to $483.8 million, following a 30 percent decline in revenues to $3.8 billion.”
Now that 96 percent of locations are open in the United States, the company has began to bounce back. Originally the company saw a 39% decrease in revenue in April and by June it was only at a 12 percent decrease.
Finally, now that some dining rooms are open, safety protocols have been put in place. Now that customers have the option to order to-go inside, McDonald’s has a list of safety measures. Employees and patrons have to wear face masks inside any establishment. Staff will have increased cleaning duties and shut down all of the PlayPlace children’s areas.
