Dolly Parton introduced Carrie Underwoods 2021 ACM Awards performance.
On Sunday, April 18, Dolly Parton made a virtual appearance on the awards show. She praised her “friend” Carrie Underwood for both her talents on screen but also her qualities off-screen. Parton noted that she knew how much this My Savior album meant to Underwood. As Parton previously released her own Christian music, Underwood’s most recent record went No. 1 on the Christian charts.
“I am so pleased and proud to introduce my dear friend, Carrie Underwood,” Parton began. “I have always admired Carrie’s incredible talent, but I am just as impressed with her personal qualities: her compassion, kindness, generosity, and, most of all, the powerful faith that we both share.”
“Now, her performance tonight speaks to that faith in a medley from her new gospel hymns album, My Savior, which I know is a true passion project for her,” Dolly Parton concluded.
Carrie Underwood’s Performance
Underwood took the Grand Ole Opry stage with CeCe Winans to perform a medley of hymns. Her performance began with a single spotlight on Underwood. She began to belt out “Amazing Grace” acapella and was later joined by instruments.
She then introduced Winans and switched into “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.” The powerhouse vocalists took turns hitting impressive notes while bringing their gospel roots to light.
The background shifted into a stained glass church, complete with a choir. The women sang “The Old Rugged Cross.”
The final moment took everyone’s breath away, and maybe even Underwood’s herself. She held the end note to “How Great Thou Art” for what seemed like an eternity. If one thing’s for sure, Dolly Parton would approve.
The Other Dolly Parton Cameo
Aside from her introduction, Dolly Parton appeared in a commercial to promote the COVID-19 vaccine. She sang for fans to get the vaccine in the melody of her hit “Jolene.” Fans couldn’t get enough of the virtual Dolly Parton cameos!
