Technology is great and all until it decides to stop working. Yesterday, the ACM Awards ran into many technical ‘hiccups’ that left viewers quite frustrated.
Since the start of the pandemic last March, many shows have had to adjust to the changing times with remote performances and crowd-less shows. This opens the door for a laundry list of issues that halt the already difficult production.
This is exactly what happened at the 2021 ACM Awards, which aired on Sunday night on CBS.
Even despite the pre-taped performances from the notable country artists, the show faced its fair share of “hiccups.”
According to Fox News, “Award-winning duo Dan + Shay’s pre-recorded performance of their song “Glad You Exist” seemed to air out of sync.”
The band noticed the issue from the ACM Awards and took their apologies to social media. Although they were “bummed,” they understood the technical issues that are associated with these types of shows.
They commented on a video from the ACM Awards account, applauding them for “a great show.”
“Apparently, there was an audio/video sync issue on the television broadcast. We’re bummed about it, but it happens, especially when performances are happening in multiple locations. Kudos to the @ACMawards for pulling off a great show.”
ACM Awards Booed by Fans
While Dan + Shay brushed off the mishap, fans voiced their frustrations with the ACM Awards online.
“Please own up to the production issues that caused the audio and video to be off,” said viewer Kathy Bishop. “I’ve seen Dan+Shay live numerous times. They don’t lip-sync, and it’s sad to think that there are now people who think they do.”
Another fan called out the account for posting the real-time video and not the delayed version that was aired during the show.
“Too bad on the CBS broadcast that’s not even close to what it looked like. Totally butchered it – the sound was off by at least 5 seconds.”
Additionally, there were more issues the ACM Awards faced up in the production booth.
When Martina Mcbride announced the winner for the “Single of the Year” category, “she correctly said “I Hope You’re Happy Now” by Carly Pearce, and Lee Brice won, though “I Hope” by Gabby Barrett appeared on the TV screen.”
This also didn’t go unnoticed by fans, who took their grievances to social media.
“The @ACMawards have so many hiccups tonight. They just put Gabby Barrett’s song up for Single of The Year, but then the winner was different.”
Despite all the negative comments, a few fans congratulated the ACM Awards for a “great job.”
