Living with someone and working with them is hard. So it’s only natural that country artist Blake Shelton would jokingly refuse to write with fiancé Gwen Stefani.
Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are both chart-topping artists, so a collaboration isn’t a far reach. In fact, we highly encourage it.
The two have written a few songs together, with one of them appearing on Stefani’s Christmas album. The other, “Nobody But You,” was a huge success, earning a nomination for an ACM award.
However, Gwen Stefani reveals that Blake Shelton doesn’t write very much anymore.
“He just doesn’t like writing that much,” says Stefani. “It makes me so mad.”
Stefani and Shelton are the Music Power Couple
Although Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton won’t write together, they still look to each other for professional advice. Stefani explains that going from a band or group to a solo artist is hard without anyone to bounce ideas off of.
“When you’re on your own [but used to] collaborat[ing] and writing with a bunch of different people, you kind of feel like you need someone to do that with,” Stefani said.
This is when it’s convenient that you’re engaged to a highly decorated artist. Stefani says that they rely on one another for honest critiques.
“Yesterday, Blake and I sat down and listened to, like, every song — which is a lot of songs — and just put our favorite stars by which ones. We definitely bounce off each other.”
The 51-year-old pop artist continues, complimenting Blake Shelton’s keen sense for sniffing out hit songs.
“He knows all genres from being on that show. You know what I’m saying? He has a really good ear for hits or just songs that are just the ones that we all like,” Stefani said. “So I definitely lean on him a lot.”
Stefani did go on to clarify that while Shelton is nice to bounce ideas off of, all of her songs are her own. Although she did joke, saying, “I wish he would write with me!”
Blake Shelton Makes Exception
When Ryan Seacrest asked Stefani on the E! red carpet if fans can expect an album together after the hit song, she quickly shut it down. She says that Blake Shelton prefers working alone.
“I don’t think so [but] we have done a lot of music together, actually,” said Stefani. “We wrote two songs together — that’s a lot. Because he never [duets]. He’s sharing his talent with me!”
That’s what you generally do in a marriage. You make exceptions. Now, we just need Gwen to keep badgering him about this album. We could definitely use another duet from the angel-voiced couple!
