Perhaps no country music group had a bigger 2020 than Dan + Shay, and the duo is still riding the wave of emotion. The group consists of singers Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney.

Dan + Shay won a 2020 Grammy Award last year for Best Country Duo/Group Performance. To put it mildly, the moment was a highlight of the year and of their careers. The group took to social media on Tuesday to relive a little of the magic and share the excitement with their growing fan base.

“One year ago today,” the band says of their big win. “We’re still emotional.”

The tweet includes a video of the two men finding out they won the prestigious award while sitting in the crowd. They both spring to their feet immediately, hug nearly everyone around them and then make their way to the stage. The duo is clearly excited by their big win and maybe also somewhat in disbelief. It is ironic that the song they won the award for is called “speechless” because both men were out of breath upon hitting the stage.

Shay asks Dan if he would speak first as he says, “I don’t think I can breath right now.” Dan was happy to oblige and give his partner a breather.

“This is one of the coolest moments of my life,” Dan says before rattling a long list of thanks and praise. Still in a state of excitement after finishing their speech, Dan and Shay embrace as they celebrate their second Grammy win.

Dan + Shay Use Real Life Wedding Footage in Video

The song “Speechless” was inspired by the two singers’ weddings that came within six months of each other. The video for the song features actual clips from their real-life weddings.

“When it came time to do the video and given the fact that we had both had weddings the year before, I was like, ‘Man, maybe this video is already done,'” Smyers said. “I had the crazy idea of taking Shay and my wedding footage and parallel those stories to showcase the moments.”

The song gave the country duo their first ever single to reach the top spot on country music charts. Their previous top-charting song “Tequila” topped out at number two overall.
