Country star Dan Smyers of Dan + Shay took to social media to post photos of a dog who was recently adopted after facing abandonment and malnutrition.

Smyers made a post with photos of the dog on Twitter.

“This sweet baby, malnourished and emaciated, was abandoned in a cardboard box after giving birth to puppies,” Smyers wrote on Twitter. “yesterday, she got her freedom ride and first bath of her life, and will forever be in good hands with @WagsandWalks. winnie, you’re safe now. ❤️”

It’s no secret that Smyers is passionate about animal rescue. He and his wife Abby have teamed with Nashville’s Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue for numerous fundraisers and volunteer efforts in the past. In fact, the couple has four rescue dogs—Chief, Macaroni (aka Mac), Joy, and Ghost.

“They’re always making us laugh,” he says. “It is like a constant form of entertainment. We no longer need to go to the movies or watch TV shows.”

Working with Nashville-based rescue organization for years, Smyers and his wife have fostered “probably 30 or 40 dogs and gotten them forever homes, but it’s always tough to let them go,” the singer told People Magazine last year.

All of the couple’s four dogs are rescues, and there is no doubt they are living the good life.

“We treat them probably better than most humans get treated,” Smyers said. “They live a pretty good life and they are very, very goofy. All of them, they have their own interesting quirks and we love them for it.”

Smyers’ dogs are also travel a lot, since they go on the road with Dan + Shay.

“Yeah, these are road dogs,” Smyers explained. “They’ve probably been to more states than most people have. They are the life of the party on the road.”

Dan + Shay Performances

The Dan + Shay 2020 concert tour had to postpone to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The country group is amongst others that have done the same thing.

“The reason we postponed instead of flat out canceling is because we know so many of you worked hard to get the seats you wanted, and we didn’t want you to lose them … I remember the feeling of falling in love with bands, finding out they were coming to Pittsburgh, and refreshing a ticket link a million times when they went on sale just to get floor seats or close to the stage. we never want to rob anyone of that magic,” Smyers said on postponing according to Country Now.

However, this hasn’t stopped the duo from making and performing music. They performed “I Should Probably Go To Bed” at the CMT and AMA Awards. Dan + Shay also performed alongside Justin Bieber for their song “10,000 Hours” at the CMA Awards. They also performed “Take Me Home for Christmas” during the finale episode of The Voice on Tuesday.
