Darius Rucker Honors Military Members
Helping both military members and their families is a cause close to Rucker’s heart. In the past, he encouraged his followers to donate to help the families of Special Operations Forces. In October, he attended the Heroes and History Makers, which is an event that honors military caregivers.
“America’s military caregivers have stood by their veterans,” Rucker wrote. “It’s our turn to stand with them.”
Also in October, Rucker and his band Hootie and The Blowfish released a new song, honoring military heroes. The band released a Christmas track called “Won’t Be Home For Christmas.” The song explores the various sacrifices those in the armed forces make to protect the country. One of those sacrifices is not being able to be home to celebrate the holidays with their families.
The song features both Abigail Hodges and Rucker as a young daughter and father, respectively. The daughter wishes for Santa Claus to bring her father home from the military for Christmas. The tune explores the duality between the daughter and the father who is deployed overseas.
In addition to honoring the troops, Rucker will also host the CMA Awards tonight (Nov. 11). This will be his first time hosting the awards ceremony. During the Awards, Rucker will also perform a duet with co-host Reba McEntire as a tribute to the late Mac Davis.
