You read that right! The one and only Dolly Parton sleeps with her makeup on every night for this one very specific reason.
9 to 5? If Dolly fans know one thing, it’s that the beloved icon is working far closer to 24/7 than regular business hours. This, however, is, not the reason she sleeps with a full face of makeup.
Speaking to WSJ magazine for a recent interview, Parton says she does all her “beauty work” and “cleaning” of her face “in the morning”. Why? So she can keep her self all “dolled up” at night! And yes, there’s a reason for that, too.
“I usually try to keep my makeup on at night. Because I never know if there’s going to be an earthquake or a tornado or a storm and I’m going to have to go out in the middle of the night!” she exclaims to the trade.
The Queen of Country Music went a step further in explaining, saying she doesn’t like to “go home and just tear down completely, because my poor husband has to look at me.”
Only Dolly. Oh, how we cherish her. She adds that “In the morning when I get up I start all over again, put on my makeup and then touch it up through the day.”
Understatement: Dolly Parton Keeps Busy
In the same interview, the star revealed she is also working on her own Dolly Parton-specific Pentecostal church “rejoicing exercises” she’s really excited for.
“I grew up in the Pentecostal church where we used to do a lot of shouting and jumping around. I keep my motor running in the mornings when I just shout through the house praising the Lord. It gave me an idea to create some easy exercises, and I’m making music to go along with it!”
But that’s not all the 75-year-old icon has been up to. In fact, Dolly Parton is finally able to be back at Dollywood, and her team has put together a remarkable tribute to her mother for the upcoming Flower and Food Festival – one that made the icon “really emotional.”

“I was really emotional,” Parton admits. “I took a lot of pictures! Because I have seen the brochures of it, and I knew what it was supposed to be. But just seeing that whole [flower display], knowing how my life has turned out… Thinking about my mom and having that big thing there that represents who I am as a person, and who my parents were… The kind of mother I was lucky enough to have,” she continues gently.
