On Friday, the singers became the first country artists in RIAA certification’s 62-year history to achieve two Diamond singles. “@FLAGAline was first with one diamond single, and now they are the first with two!” the tweet says. “Congrats Fellas.”
The group’s 2012 breakout hit “cruise” and 2017’s “Meant To Be” are the two songs earning the honor for Florida Georgia Line. According to the RIAA website, only 43 songs have obtained diamond status making the honor of having two highly unique.
Florida Georgia Line Thank Fans
Both members of the group, Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley, thanked their fans for making the accomplishment possible.
“Thank you guys for the recognition and this ride has been a dream come true,” Brian Kelley says during a celebration. “It’s pretty crazy hearing the numbers. It’s pretty wild to think about it in that time span.”
Hubbard adds the feeling of this great accomplishment is “surreal” and he is having to let it “sink in.”
“It is surreal and it is nice to take a second to let that sink in, and honestly we’re so thankful,” he says. “It’s awesome to know it’s connecting. When I hear those numbers, that’s what I hear, and I just think that’s something that we can all be proud of.”
The accomplishment comes at a critical time for the band as rumors swirled of a possible break up. The rumors came after Hubbard “unfollowed” Kelley on a social media site earlier this month. Both men quickly shot down the rumors and tell fans they have no intentions of splitting up any time soon.
