On Tuesday, country superstar Garth Brooks joined Good Morning America to talk about his upcoming new album Fun and announced that his cover of “Shallow” with his wife Trisha Yearwood made the album.
Brooks said “Shallow” will be one of the singles sent to country radio music stations ahead of Fun‘s Nov. 20 release date. The famous song – popularized by the 2018 hit movie A Star is Born – is best known as a duet between singer Lady Gaga and actor Bradley Cooper.
“Shallow” was written by Lady Gaga, Andrew Wyatt, Anthony Rossomando and Mark Ronson specifically for A Star is Born. The single topped the charts for months in more than 20 countries and gained recognition from critics and awards shows alike. In fact, it took home both the Oscar and Golden Globe for “Best Original Song.”
Additionally, the popular song earned four Grammy Award nominations, including “Record of the Year” and “Song of the Year.” And it won Grammys in the “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” and “Best Song Written for Visual Media” categories.
Brooks and Yearwood Have Performed ‘Shallow’ Before
The hit single is not new to Brooks and his country star wife. Indeed, the couple has played the song together prior to recording “Shallow” for Fun. Brooks and Yearwood performed the song in March on his Facebook Live Series titled Inside Studio G. Subsequently, the two country stars followed that with an encore performance during their CBS TV special on April 1.
“It is officially going to be the single off the record coming up,” said Brooks on GMA. “And I think tomorrow night we’re actually going to let everybody hear — not all of it — a snippet of it for the first time. So we’re really excited.”
While on the morning show, Brooks invited fans to join him for a live interactive preview of Fun. The preview will take place tomorrow on Wednesday, Oct. 21, and will air on TalkShopLive and GarthBrooks.com at 7 p.m. EST.
Brooks has already previewed a handful of songs from Fun at various times. In addition to the “Shallow” cover, songs include “That’s What Cowboys Do,” “The Road I’m On,” “Courage of Love,” “Party Gras,” “All Day Long,” “Stronger Than Me,” and “Dive Bar.”
