George Strait’s Honky Tonk Time Machine is 2 years old!
Strait celebrated the anniversary with a social media post. “Happy Anniversary to Honky Tonk Time Machine! What’s your favorite song from the album?” George Strait tweeted. Strait also held a contest for his fan club on Facebook.
Fans flooded his social media accounts to relive the record and share their favorite songs off of the album.
All About George Strait’s ‘Honky Tonk Time Machine’
George Strait’s record features 13 songs with 12 original titles. Strait gave his own rendition on Johnny Paycheck’s hit “Old Violin.” Strait wrote 8 of the 13 tracks and co-produced the album alongside Chuck Ainlay. This marked his 30th studio album and proves that Strait just keeps getting better with each record.
“I’m really excited to have some new music coming out,” George Strait said in a press release. “It’s been about two years since I’ve released a record. It was great writing with Bubba and Dean again and creating such a beautiful song with Bubba and Jeff Hyde. Also, it was a very special thing for me to be able to write and sing one with the legend Willie Nelson. I hope everyone enjoys listening to Honky Tonk Time Machine as much as I enjoyed making it.”
The album features two collaborations, one with Nelson on “Sing One With Willie.” They debuted the song while performing for the first time together at an intimate Nashville concert. The second feature was with his grandson, Harvey Strait, on “God and Country Music. The song was the standout single from the record and was written by songwriting greats Luke Laird, Barry Dean and Lori McKenna.
George’s Iconic Music Career
George Strait is semi-retired and is one of the only major musicians that doesn’t do interviews. He creates his music for himself and his fans, not radio or any critic, which has made him the massive success that he is today.
“It’s so hard to make it in this business,” he admitted to Rolling Stone. “I’m just saying that – if I ever say anything that even sounds bad about it, it’s just that it’s not my taste in music. Everybody has their taste. But to be able to have success in this business is hard and so if you’re able to do it, more power to you.”
When it comes to longevity, George Strait is the perfect example of an artist. He doesn’t consider all of the records and milestones he has under his belt. “Honestly, I don’t think about those things,” he revealed. “It’s hard to believe it’s been 34 years since I’ve played here because the time has simply flown by. It’s just been such a fun, great career that I never dreamed I could have. I mean, getting in the Hall of Fame when I’m still out there.”
