The man of many hits, George Strait, is reflecting on one of them this week. It might be one that we all could learn from.
George Strait’s song “I Saw God Today” is about seeing God and the good in the things around you. In an unprecedented year like 2020, seeing the good in things around is something we could all likely benefit from.
Strait thinks the song serves as a reminder to not take things for granted. Moreover, thinks that it’s well written and shows what can happen if we take a step back and look at what we’re surrounded by beauty and little miracles.
The country icon is sharing a few lyrics from the hit song in a post on Instagram this week.
The caption reads, “‘His fingerprints are everywhere. I just look down to stop and stare. Open my eyes and then I swear, I saw God today.” #ISawGodToday“
Fans of the King of Country are loving this post on social media. In only a matter of hours after posting, the photo received thousands upon thousands of likes. Additionally, many Strait fans peppered the comments section with red heart emojis.
Story Behind the George Strait Hit Song
“I Saw God Today” was released in 2008 on the Troubador album. It won the Country Music Association Award for Single of the Year and was nominated several times for other various awards.
Furthermore, it became the Strait’s 43rd number one hit on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The song debuted at No. 19 on the charts, which was the highest of his career.
Songwriters Rodney Clawson, Monty Criswell, and Wade Kirby collectively wrote “I Saw God Today.”
Criswell had the initial idea for the concept of the song. He often hunted and when asked about his day, Criswell would say “caught a glimpse of God today,” Wide Open Country reports. From this phrase, the song later evolved into what it is today.
