On Wednesday (August 25th), country legend George Strait took to the stage of CMT Giants to perform Charley Pride’s “Is Anybody Goin’ to San Antone.”
“If we’re talking about Texas, who better than @georgestrait to sing this one in tribute to Charley Pride?” CMT declares in an Instagram post, which features George Strait’s performance.
George Strait is currently preparing to kick off his upcoming tour. He will be performing at the Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin, Texas from October 1st through October 10th. Strait will be taking the stage at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium alongside Eric Church on November 5 for a special “The King & The Chief” iteration of the ATLive festival.
George Strait recently announced he added December and February dates at the T-Mobile Arena. He surpassed a total of 30 “Strait to Vegas” shows.
George Strait Talks Short Retirement From Touring
During a 2012 interview with People, George Strait opened up about retiring from touring and how the decision affected him personally. “I lost a lot of sleep thinking about it. Seriously, it’s been in the back of my mind for a couple of years now.”
George Strait also said the decision was tough because walking on stage is still so much fun for him. “Such a thrill. That moment when you come out onto the stage and the fans are there. It’s so exciting. There’s nothing like it.”
But George Strait does admit that traveling for the tours has always been a pain for him because it’s the same routine over and over again. “It’s the bus, then a hotel, then the venue, then the bus again. You don’t see anything but the inside of those places.”
Strait also said touring took over so much of his time that he wasn’t able to do the things he wanted to do. “I could still travel. Go to the ranch. I was off for hunting season. I could fish.”
Strait announced his retirement from touring in September 2012. His “Cowboy Rides Away Tour” finished its run in June 2014.
George Strait Opens Up About His Music Career Through the Years
Also during his interview with People, George Strait looks back on his legendary music career throughout the years. “I’ve been blessed with the ability to sing, and that has taken me to so many places I never would have gone otherwise.”
Strait also said that his career also brought great people into his life. “Two of my band members have been with me since the beginning. My tour manager started out as my drummer way back then.”
Strait goes on to add that he is so lucky to have had that loyalty and consistency throughout his career.
