Following the recent news that Carrie Underwood is currently under fire for liking a controversial tweet on Twitter, fellow country singer John Rich is stepping up to defend the Before He Cheats songstress.

While tweeting out an article from The Wrap, John Rich writes, “I say @carrieunderwood can like whatever tweet she wants to like. Who are ‘they’ to shout her down? Watch out, she’s a tough Okie gal.”

Rich goes on to state, “You see what’s going on here? ‘It’s freedom of speech unless you disagree with the mob.’ #CarrieTakeTheWheel.”

The tweet that the Big & Rich star is referring to is of conservative figure Matt Walsh speaking at the August 10th Nashville School Boarding meeting about mask mandates. He referred to the mask mandate as “child abuse” and forcing children to wear masks is both “cruel and indefensible.”

Carrie Underwood has yet to speak out about the tweet backlash.

John Rich Shares Details About His Show ‘The Pursuit’

During a September 2020 interview with the Tennessee Star, Rich shared more details about his new series The Pursuit. “[The show is] based on the idea that our country doesn’t guarantee us happiness. It guarantees us the right to pursue happiness. There’s a big difference between those two things.”

Rich explained that he sits people down and interviews them about their pursuit of happiness. He reflects on his interview with the late Charlie Daniels. “God rest his soul. We lost him this past summer. And I got to ask him every question that I could think of that I would have wanted to ask him. And man what an incredible guy.”

Speaking about his own happiness, Rich said, “The fact that we have a right to go after [happiness] should make us happy. Makes me happy.”

Rich Opens Up About His Music Career’s Beginnings

Also during his interview with the Tennessee Star, John Rich discussed what really drew him to music at a young age. “My dad plays guitar and sings. [He] is a really, really god singer. He writes his own Gospel song. So I would watch my dad during the week working on a song. Like writing a gospel song and Christian song.”

Rich goes on to explain that he would watch his father sing his songs at church or out in the street to a crowd and watch the crowd’s reactions. He goes on to say what really inspires his music.

“I’ve said many times a blank sheet of paper and a pencil are probably the most powerful things in the world,” Rich continued. “The Constitution started off as a blank sheet of paper. the Bible started off as a blank sheet of paper. Somebody had to be inspired and write something on that piece of paper.”
