In 2018, a group of artists came together to create an album in tribute to legendary country music artist Johnny Cash. That album was “Forever Words.”
In addition, the Twitter account helping to keep the singer’s memory alive is asking fans what tracks they love best from the expanded version of that album.
The album originally became available in 2018. Also, it includes the recordings of several individuals who performed lyrics and poetry created by the Man in Black. These lyrics and poetic words were accompanied by music. The inspiration for the “Forever Words” album was the 2016 book “Forever Words: The Unknown Poems.”
This was a collection of the poetic musings of Johnny Cash, who passed away in 2003. When “Forever Words” was initially released in 2018, it included 16 songs. Artists who performed these tracks included Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Alison Kraus and Union Station. Also on the album were Brad Paisley, John Mellencamp, Elvis Costello, Jewel, and even Johnny Cash’s daughter, Roseanne Cash.
Luckily for fans of Johnny Cash, an expanded version of the “Forever Words” album was later released. There were reportedly four additional expansions to the original album. Two came out during October 2020 and December 2020. The other two expansions came out in February 2021 and April 2021.
The expanded, or deluxe, version of the album includes performances by Marty Stuart, John Popper, The Lumineers, and Ronnie Dunn. Also back again are Brad Paisley, Jewel, and Elvis Costello and the Imposters.

And, with the final expansion of the Johnny Cash “Forever Words” album now available, the singer’s Twitter account has asked fans to share which songs from the album are their favorites. It’s certainly a difficult task, but the Man in Black’s fans were up to the challenge.
“What’s your favorite song on Forever Words Expanded?” the tweet said. It was shared on Tuesday (April 26). You can check it out below.
Fans were quick to respond with their favorite tracks from this Johnny Cash album.
“You never knew my mind,” one fan shared. This was a track performed by the late Chris Cornell.
“I’ve been around,” was another song listed as a favorite. It was performed by Marty Stuart.
Another response was “Forever/I Still Miss Someone. Easily.”
To get an idea of the poetic beauty of Johnny Cash’s words used for the album, let’s take a look at a few of the lyrics. “Forever/I Still Miss Someone” is certainly a good place to start.
“You tell me that I must perish / Like the flowers that I cherish / Nothing remaining of my name / Nothing remembered of my fame / But the trees that I planted still are young / The songs that I sang will still be sung.”
