Toby Keith will soon become a member of a very exclusive club. According to CMT, this exclusive club is the Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.
Keith’s talent as a songwriter was evident from the start of his career during the early 1990s. He made a name for himself with his 1993 hit “Should’ve Been a Cowboy.” This was the first single he released in his career and was a No. 1 single. And, what made it more impressive is that he wrote the hit song himself.
Since coming on to the country music scene, Toby Keith has written 45 songs that have made it into the Top 20 on the charts. Out of those 45 songs, 16 of them have climbed to the very top of the charts.
Some of the hit songs Keith has written during his decades-long career include “Beer For My Horses,” “You Ain’t Much Fun,” “How Do You Like Me Now?!,” “I Love This Bar,” “American Soldier,” “God Love Her, “You Shouldn’t Kiss Me Like This,” and “A Little Too Late.”
Toby Keith earned the BMI award for Country Song of the Year in 2006 with “As Good As I Once Was.” Also, being inducted into the Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame is not the only exclusive songwriting club that he is a part of. In 2015, he was selected to be a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York.
The news of his selection into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame is not the only thing Toby Keith has to celebrate during July 2021. The popular singer and songwriter celebrated a milestone birthday – his 60th – on July 8.
Amy Grant, Others Joining Toby Keith in 2021 Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Class
In addition to Toby Keith, other 2021 inductees include the beloved Amy Grant and songwriter Rhett Atkins. Grant is known for her many popular Contemporary Christian songs. She is also the wife of country music star Vince Gill.
Atkins is known for songs he has written for some very big names in country music. For example, he wrote the song “All About Tonight” for Blake Shelton, as well as the song “Put a Girl In It” for Brooks & Dunn. Atkins also had success as a country music singer himself. During the 1990s, he had a popular hit song with the track “That Ain’t My Truck.”
Other 2021 inductees include Buddy Cannon and John Scott Sherrill.
Toby Keith and his fellow inductees into the Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame will be honored on Nov. 1, 2021. The ceremony will be the 50/51 Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala.
In addition to recognizing Toby Keith and others, the 2021 ceremony will also recognize the individuals who were selected to be part of this exclusive club in 2020. They could not be honored last year due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
