Former NCIS star Pauley Perrette believed that Abby Sciuto’s platforms are similar to an ankle boot.

In a 2013 interview with David Letterman, Perrette spoke about an ankle injury. The injury forced her to wear a boot for it to heal properly.

“I’m a little bit shorter tonight because I have a sprained ankle. I sprained it on October 6, 2012,” she shared with the late night host.

She was at a charity event when she stepped on a curb and her ankle rolled. The following week she participated in an AIDS walk and another charity event after that. Perrette volunteered for 30 charities at the time and never rested.

“I just kept going and I never went to the doctor,” she admitted. “So now I have to wear flat shoes except when I’m playing Abby and then I’m in seven-inch platforms.”

Letterman suggested that acting in the platforms could have caused her to injure her ankle more. However, the NCIS alum had a different take.

“I don’t think so because for a week I had one of those big giant boots,” she revealed. “If anyone’s worn the boot you know what it’s like. So I had this big giant boot on my foot from the doctor and it was eerily similar to Abby’s big giant boots, only without the platform. So I think it’s okay I think that in the big platform business of Abby, I’m telling myself I get excellent ankle support,” she concluded.

Abby’s Legacy

Pauley Perrette realizes that Abby is “not just a TV character for people.” She spoke with People about her character’s legacy and final episode.

“These young girls have modeled their entire lives off of her,” she told the outlet. “It’s like Abby has raised a couple of generations of young girls and has inspired this international phenomenon of young women going into math and science and STEM programs because she made it accessible, cool, attainable and fun.”

Although she knew it was going to be heavy and tough to film her final episode, she didn’t realize just how hard it would be.

“I just decided, ‘I’m going to give this everything I’ve got,’ and I did,” she shared. “I was emotionally exhausted at the end of every single day. It was so heavy, but it’s probably the best work I’ve ever done.”

Post-‘NCIS’ Life

Pauley Perrette joined the CBS comedy Broke following her departure from NCIS after almost sixteen years. Unfortunately, the sitcom was canceled after just one season. After the cancelation, Perrette retired from acting. She said that all she has ever wanted was to rescue dogs and raise plants.

“Actually I retired after NCIS but BROKE was important, beautiful,” she clarified. “I did my last dance & am proud of it! Everyone that knows me knew I was retiring right after.”
