New details are emerging regarding how iconic game show host Alex Trebek lived out his final days before passing just a week ago. The 80-year-old long time “Jeopardy!” host lost his battle to stage 4 pancreatic cancer on November 8.
“Jeopardy!” Executive Producer, Mike Richards says Trebek died at home surrounded by family and friends. Richards also states Trebek spent his final days doing what he loves most — sitting on his swing with his wife, Jean Currivan, watching the sun set and rise on the horizon.
It appears, however, that Trebek stayed busy during his summer downtime, in-between seasons of Jeopardy, according to Fox News. In an interview this past summer, He tells People Magazine that he and his wife worked on numerous projects around the house.
“I’ve just been doing little projects around the house, getting rid of stuff,” he says in the interview. “I have accumulated so much over the past four decades, it’s difficult to decide what’s got to go.”
Trebek says his wife helped to simplify the project by telling him what to keep and what has to go.
“She says if you haven’t used it in a year, it’s got to go,” Trebek states. “Well, I have things I haven’t used in 40 years. So I’m just tidying things up, if you will.”
Trebek, who presided more than 8,000 episodes, also spoke candidly about why Jeopardy was so important to him and a big part of his life.
“The job gave me quality of life,” he says. “It established a rhythm and order of things. I miss it very much.”
Trebek began his 37th season with the show earlier this year despite his medical condition. Show officials say he taped shows until October 29 and has enough tapings to air through Christmas Day. Upon his death, numerous celebrities and public figures took to social media to share their thoughts on his passing.
