November 18th marked the fifteenth anniversary of the Johnny Cash biopic “Walk the Line”. So, Reese Witherspoon took to her Twitter and Instagram accounts to reflect on her role as June Carter-Cash, accomplished performer and wife of one of country music’s biggest icons.
Witherspoon’s Instagram followers were treated with a behind the scenes photo of her and co-star Joaquin Phoenix as the iconic duo lounging on a black leather couch. While the Instagram caption is nearly identical to her tweets on the subject, the photo says more about the pair’s onscreen chemistry than any words could.
A Rewarding Role
The Music City native and veteran actress recalls stepping into the shoes of Nashville’s matriarch as one of the most rewarding experiences of her life. Witherspoon had no idea that she would actually be stepping up to the microphone to recreate some of June’s performances. This revelation caused some issues in the beginning. After months of vocal lessons and laser focus, she was able to hold her own onstage. That hard work and determination paid off with an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and several other awards for the role.
The awards shows weren’t the only ones to take notice. Critics as well as audiences alike loved the film. Kathy Cash, Johnny’s daughter from his first marriage, voiced her issues with her mother’s portrayal in the film. Furthermore, Witherspoon will take an executive producer role on an upcoming musical completion reality show titled “My Kind of Country”. The show will showcase several styles of country music. She will produce several other upcoming projects. Among those is her hit AppleTV+ series “The Morning Show” in which she also stars.
