“Saturday Night Live” tore through its season finale last night after a season full of exciting hosts, hilarious skits, and amazing musical performers. The show couldn’t end the season without at least one live malfunction, however. The musical guest last night was popular rapper and singer, Lil Nas X. He happened to tear his own pants while performing.

Anya Taylor-Joy, a popular actress and model known for “Queen’s Gambit” and “The Witch,” was the host of “SNL.” Lil Nas X took the stage to perform his two most recent hits, “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” and “Sun Goes Down.”

As he was crushing his “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” single, Lil Nas X was dancing on a stripper pole. His goal was to recreate part of the popular music video on the live stage. Unfortunately, his pants weren’t cut out for the dancing.

Wardrobe Malfunction on ‘SNL’

According to The Hollywood Reporter, mid-performance his pants ripped and the Grammy-winning artist immediately covered the tear with his hand. He did not return to the pole for the rest of the choreography. Rather, he danced near the pole and let his male backup dancers do the rest.

Known for being hilarious and easy-going, Lil Nas X did not take the malfunction too seriously.

He tweeted to his 6.4 million followers, “i wanted to do my pole routine so bad this what i get lmaoo.” He later also tweeted, “i know i do a lot of planned shit but ripping my pants on live television is not one of them.”

The singer shared on Twitter that he was frightened by the idea of performing live on the show. He rehearsed for two weeks, but one dancer tested positive for COVID-19, so all the dancers needed to be replaced. The new dancers had to learn the routine in 24 hours. After a whirlwind in rehearsal, nothing could prepare him for a little tear in his plans and pants. He couldn’t finish his original planned choreography due to the gaping hole in his pants.

As is expected, many social media users compared it to the classic Spongebob Squarepants ripped pants ballad.

Last night was the 46th season finale of the show. Despite all the drama, he said it was his “favorite night of my career.” “SNL” has gone up and down in ratings this season. There was an increase when Elon Musk hosted the show recently.

Lil Nas X has been dominating the charts with his singles. “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” is entering its fifth week at No.1 on the Billboard Global 200 chart.
