The Brady Bunch had a unique way to film shows, according to Barry Williams, who played Greg Brady on the ABC family sitcom.
Williams held an interactive interview with MeTV Tampa Bay and interviewer Mike Deeson. During the interview, Deeson asked how The Brady Bunch filmed its episodes.
Williams said it was all based on location.
“So we would shoot all the bedroom scenes in one day,” he said. “We’d shoot all the outdoor scenes in the backyard in one day.”
He continued to say that garage and kitchen scenes for The Brady Bunch also were shot in similar fashion.

It was done that way “so we didn’t have to move the crew around and reset up the lights and that kind of thing,” Williams said.
He said The Brady Bunch was a one-camera-filmed show “so we kind of moved slower than other shows.”
Williams mentions The Odd Couple, Happy Days, and Mork and Mindy as examples of shows with four or five cameras. Those shows had the ability to go from the start to the finish of each episode thanks to the multiple cameras available.
Show creator Sherwood Schwartz, who also created Gilligan’s Island that aired on CBS for three seasons, put together The Brady Bunch cast. Williams was part of the ensemble cast that featured Florence Henderson, Robert Reed, and Ann B. Davis.
By the way, Williams is now the oldest living member of the original cast. He’s 66 years old. Sadly, Henderson, Reed, and Davis are all dead. The rest of the cast included Maureen McCormick, Eve Plumb, and Susan Olsen as the daughters. Christopher Knight and Mike Lookinland played Williams’ brothers on The Brady Bunch.
Knight Said Williams Thought Of Himself As Adult Member of Cast
Knight said in a 2019 interview on “Really Famous with Kara Meyer Robinson” that Williams actually spent a lot of time with the adult actors.
“Barry was hanging out with Florence and Bob,” he said of his costar on The Brady Bunch. “He thought of himself and recognized himself as an adult.”
In real life, Williams was the youngest of three boys. Knight said Williams and his elder brothers have between 4-8 years between them in age.
“And he identified with his brothers so he was, at the time 14, probably identifying around 20,” Knight said. “He always thought of himself as an adult so he saw himself as a contemporary of Florence and Bob’s.” Bob refers to Reed, who played Mike Brady, the father of the TV family. Florence, obviously, is Henderson, who played mother Carol Brady.
