When the news broke that Meghan McCain will be leaving “The View” before her contract with the show expired, fans were not the only ones who were surprised.
According to The Daily Mail, McCain’s co-hosts on “The View” were also surprised to learn that she would be leaving the show early. The news outlet referenced a source that said McCain had not informed those co-hosts of her resignation. Those co-hosts are Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Ana Navarro, Sara Haines, and Sunny Hostin.
The daughter of the late presidential candidate and United States Senator John McCain has worked as a host on the popular ABC daytime show for four years. She reportedly announced her resignation from “The View” during the show on Thursday (July 1, 2021).
As she announced her exit, McCain also had words of praise for her cohosts.
“It is a privilege to work alongside such strong, brilliant, intelligent broadcasters … You are the most talented women on all of television,’ she said of her co-hosts,” she shared.
Meghan McCain Joined Daytime Show After Her Father Encouraged Her to Take the Job
Meghan McCain joined “The View” after her famous father encouraged her to do so. Her first episode aired in October 2017.
“I didn’t want to join the show as I think I’ve talked about it in the past,” she shared. “It was my dad who encouraged me to do it. He was right.”
McCain plans to remain on “The View” until the end of July 2021. Before her exit, she hopes she and her co-hosts can share several more interesting exchanges. McCain is a Republican voice on the show.
“I will still be here another month so if you guys want to fight a bit more we still have a few more weeks,” McCain said.
She also said she is leaving the show in order to spend more time with her daughter. Meghan McCain and her daughter, Liberty, reside in Washington, D.C. McCain and her husband, Ben Domenech, welcomed Liberty to the world during September 2020.
ABC Network Shares Words of Praise for Meghan McCain as She Announces Resignation from ‘The View’
With her resignation from the show now coming to light, ABC issued a statement praising McCain.
“For the past four years, Meghan McCain has brought her fierce determination and vast political knowledge and experience to ‘The View,'” the statement read. “She recently came to us with her decision to depart the show at the end of this season, a difficult choice that she made for her and her family that we respect and understand. We wish the best for Meghan as she plans her next chapter, and thank her for the passion and unique voice that she shared with us and our viewers each day.”
According to the source, the network tried to keep McCain on “The View.”
“We have tried to keep her, but she is adamant that now is the right time for her to leave,” the source reportedly shared.
