Yellowstone has been crushing it in the ratings lately. But this Sunday, a new challenge presents itself in the form of the American Music Awards, which air on ABC at 8 p.m. ET – the same time Yellowstone airs on the Paramount Network. How will Taylor Sheridan’s hit show stack up against the AMAs?
The awards show will feature performances by BTS, Megan Thee Stallion, Tyler the Creator, Diplo, Olivia Rodrigo, New Edition and New Kids on the Block. Cardi B will host, per TV Line. Also on at 8 p.m. are Doctor Who (BBC America), The Simpsons (Fox) and the TV movie A Kiss Before Christmas (Hallmark Channel).
Meanwhile, on Yellowstone, fans can expect to see some conflict in the Bunkhouse. There’s also a surprise in store for Jamie (Wes Bentley) and an intriguing offer heading Beth’s (Kelly Reilly) way.
‘Yellowstone’ Season 4 Is Off to a Suspenseful Start
Season 4 of Yellowstone hit the ground running with a partial resolution to the Season 3 cliffhanger that had fans on the edge of their seats. (Spoiler alert: If you haven’t seen Season 4 and want to find out what happens for yourself, read no further.)
Finally healed from his multiple gunshot wounds, John Dutton (Kevin Costner) is determined to wipe out the militia that carried out the attacks, both to take revenge and to prevent further harm to his family and his ranch. But now, thanks to Chief Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and Mo (Mo Brings Plenty), John also knows that someone else was pulling the strings.
A loudmouthed gambler at Rainwater’s casino revealed that he helped connect the militia with a felon who had put out a hit on John. John doesn’t recognize the man, which may mean the felon was acting on behalf of someone else.
Meanwhile, Beth and Rip (Cole Hauser) have taken in a troubled youngster, Carter (Finn Little), who threatens to tax their newly-stable relationship. Jimmy (Jefferson White) has left the Dutton Ranch on John’s orders after he broke his promise to forget about rodeo; he’s on his way to the Four Sixes, a ranch in Texas where cowboys raise some of the finest horses and livestock in the world. And in the Bunkhouse, Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith) is still pissed over Walker’s (Ryan Bingham) relationship with Laramie (Hassie Harrison).
Moreover, with the new season comes a new villain: Caroline Warner (Jacki Weaver), the CEO of Market Equities who’s determined to build an airport on a parcel of John’s land. We’ll have to wait and see how long she lasts in the valley.
Series Has Three Seasons Left to Go
According to Sheridan, Yellowstone has the rest of this season and about two seasons more to go before he’ll wrap things up. In an interview with Deadline last year, the Yellowstone co-creator said he doesn’t want to damage his brand by stretching the show out indefinitely.
“You have to keep moving forward, and there have to be consequences in the world, and there has to be an evolution toward a conclusion,” Sheridan said of the show’s overarching plot, which he has mapped out in his head. “Can that be another two seasons beyond this? It could. I don’t see this as a procedural show. So, it’s not something that we could extend indefinitely. I don’t think anyone would want to do that; you’d cheapen the product.”
So enjoy it while it lasts, Yellowstone fans. The hit series, which drew record-breaking ratings for its Season 4 premiere, will only be churning out fresh episodes for so long.
