The hit Paramount Network series “Yellowstone” has turned several of its actors into bonafide Hollywood stars, including Cole Hauser.
On “Yellowstone,” Hauser plays fan-favorite Rip Wheeler, a ruthless but loyal cowboy who doesn’t often turn down a fight. Through three seasons of the show, Hauser has won over “Yellowstone” watchers for his portrayal of the rough and tough cowboy. Wheeler is the foreman of Yellowstone Ranch and the unquestioned leader of the bunkhouse crew of cowboys. As a cowboy, Rip can do it all and doesn’t back down from a challenge. But, it is his loyalty to the Dutton family that has made him a favorite among fans of the show. Rip serves as the family’s muscle and isn’t afraid of getting his hands dirty to protect the family. Wheeler has no issues in doing away with Dutton family enemies, even if it means killing them.
But, there is much more to Rip Wheeler as he has a softer side, though it rarely shows up. There is also much more to Cole Hauser than the brute cowboy he plays on “Yellowstone” through three seasons. In a recent interview with Hall Wines, Hauser reveals that he could take up screenwriting in the future. He also notes that he comes from a long line of writers and would love to carry on the tradition.
“I love all facets of this business,” Hauser says. “I’ve been writing since I was 15-year-old. My mom is a writer. My father is a writer and my grandfather is a writer. I mean, they’re all writers. They are great storytellers in their own right and it’s all been passed down to me.”
Hauser also notes his close relationship with “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan as an influence on his writing style.
“I have worked with Taylor — and in my opinion — he is one of the better American writers out there,” he says. “He and I work well together and we talk a lot. I think what has made the character special is that we listen to each other. He will say ‘try this’ or ‘go this way’ and I trust him and he trusts me. It’s just been a nice merger of two creative souls.”
While screenwriting may be in his future, “Yellowstone” is currently Hauser’s main focus. The hit show will return this fall with a brand new season — the fourth of the series.
Fans are curious about what the new season has in store for Rip Wheeler. In the teaser trailer released just weeks ago, it appears Rip is the first person to discover John Dutton as he lays dying. One imagines that Rip will be none too happy about the attempts on the Dutton family’s lives, including his fiancee, Beth Dutton.
We hope to see Rip doing Rip things in season four of “Yellowstone.”
