What happens when you mix a bathrobe, two bottles of liquor, a full trough, and one very unsafe heating method? A Beth Dutton mood.
“Beth Dutton is a mood,” Yellowstone‘s official Twitter account posts. All too true. While it’s a fact fans need no reminder of – any chance to revisit one of her iconic moments is one worth taking.
Today, it’s her iconic “trough scene,” in which the Dutton daughter grieves the way she sees fit. Her brother, Jamie, and protector/love Rip Wheeler, may not see it that way, but damn it if anyone is going to tell Beth Dutton what to do.
Beth Dutton & The Trough: “Look me in the eye and tell me what today is…”
“The f*ck?” notes Jamie as he spots his sister walking out to the horse trough in not but her robe. Sporting two bottles of liquor, of course.
“What are you doing?” he asks his sister. “Hey! What are you doing?”
No answer comes from Beth, even as he chases after her repeating his half-attempt at her welfare. Beth, taking one last drag from her cigarette, tosses it into the sand before turning to Jamie for a stern warning.
“Better turn around, Jamie. I’m in no mood to explain why we don’t have the same pee pee,” she finally replies. Classic.
“Suit yourself,” Beth scolds before dropping her robe and entering the trough. “I know it’s a lot for you to process, Jamie. Only yesterday you were dreamin’ of a penis.”
“Yeah the only thing on my mind is how am I going to clean that trough,” Jamie replies.
Beth laughs, before taking a swig. “Every now and then you say something that makes me think you’re smart. Then I look at you and that thought fades…”
From here, the iconic scene takes a turn for the serious, with Beth reminding her brother of the day’s impact on her. And how it should be impacting him.

Classics like “Repeat that in English, I don’t speak dipsh*t,” and “Where’s the fun in wrecking a single man? When I break you, I want to know I’m breaking generations” await.
