Coincidence or concurrence? “Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak can relate to a woman who noticed that she and PBS NewsHour host Judy Woodruff always seemed to get their hair done at the same time. Sajak says he and NBC News anchor John Chancellor gained a few pounds at the same time, too.
“Not so weird,” Sajak tweeted Wednesday. “Years ago, I noticed that when NBC News anchorman John Chancellor had put on a few pounds, so had I. When I dropped them, so did he. Never figured out why.”
‘Wheel of Fortune’ Host Pat Sajak Watched Chancellor’s Reports
Chancellor died in 1996 after undergoing treatment for stomach cancer, the Chicago Tribune reported. The Midwestern newsman started his reporting career at the Chicago Sun-Times before moving over to the Chicago NBC station. NBC television hired him in 1950.
Chancellor would go on to spend more than 40 years with NBC News. He covered more than 50 foreign countries over the course of his career. And by the time he retired in 1993, he had interviewed each U.S. president since Harry Truman.
Chancellor anchored the “NBC Nightly News” from 1970 to 1982, and it may have been somewhere in there that Sajak watched him. But he was also the host of the “Today” show from 1961 to ’62 and director of Voice of America for two years in the 1960s.
“I’ve really enjoyed every day of the work at NBC,” Chancellor said in a 1993 interview. “Now, it’s time to go… Besides, I really think I’ve outlived the culture here.” Chancellor complained that corporate ownership of television networks, by companies such as General Electric, treated television employees like “interchangeable parts.”

Outlets like The Globe are claiming that “Wheel of Fortune” producers are unhappy with Sajak’s performance. This follows recent incidents in which Sajak called a contestant “ungrateful” and seemingly mocked another contestant with a lisp.
Despite the reports from various outlets, others claim that there’s no truth. Primary evidence refuting the claim is that Sajak’s contract runs through 2022.
Moreover, based on his Twitter account, where he’s been tweeting several times a month, Sajak remains in good spirits and has given no sign that anything is amiss.
