As far as favorite sports teams go, it’s safe to say that longtime Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak has been around the block a time or two.
Sajak has been the host of “America’s game show” since 1983. He is currently in his 38th season as the show’s host and is the longest-running game show host of all time. And while his loyalties have stayed true to Wheel of Fortune for nearly 40 years, the same can’t be said of his favorite sports teams.
When he isn’t hosting the show along with his co-hostess and letter girl, Vanna White, Sajak is a big hockey fan. However, his favorite team usually depends on which part of the country he is living in at the time. After all, he does have homes on both the East and West coast.
All indications would point to the Washington Capitals as being his favorite hockey team at the moment. Although he was born and raised as a Blackhawks fan in Chicago, Sajak moved to Los Angeles and began to follow the Kings during the Wayne Gretzky glory days. And then after moving once again, this time to the D.C. area, Sajak quickly took an interest in the Capitals.
He told the Washington Post back in 2008 that he was particularly fond of the team’s all-star captain, Alexander Ovechkin.
“I lived through Gretzky, and all those great Blackhawk players, but I’ve never seen anything like this guy,” Sajak said. “I’ve seen skilled players. But I’ve never seen anybody with that level of skill who is that willing to be physical and mix things up. He’s a combination of everything you like about hockey. He’s faster than anyone I’ve seen, he’s quicker than anyone I’ve seen, and he’s got a longer reach than anyone I’ve seen.”
‘Wheel of Fortune’ Host Pat Sajak’s Favorite Baseball Team
It was just a couple of years ago that Wheel of Fortune frontman, Pat Sajak, was spotted at the World Series. That game took place between the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers. While there, a curious reporter took it upon himself to ask Sajak questions about his favorite team.
The interview began with the reporter assuming that Sajak wasn’t there to root for the Astros.
“I mean, it’s hard not to have some part of you not root for them. It’s been such a great year and such a great story. But they are playing the Dodgers and I am wearing blue,” Sajak said at the game.
Shortly after, the longtime gameshow host confirmed that he was a Dodgers fan.
“Yeah, I’ve lived out here since ’77. I grew up in Chicago as a Cubs fan. When they didn’t make it in 100 years, I said, ‘That’s enough’ and I’ve moved on,” he admitted.
