The “Cyrus virus” is spreading on social media as Billy Ray encourages his fans to post TikTok videos soundtracked by his cover of “Mama Said Knock You Out.”

The song’s originally recorded by LL Cool J and was released in 1990. But what’s old is new again, and Cyrus added the song to his new album “The Singin’ Hill Sessions – Mojave”.

LL Cool J joined daytime talk show “The Talk” to chat about the new season of “NCIS: Los Angeles.” The video call took a turn when one of the hosts ask the rapper turned actor about his thoughts on Cyrus’ version of his hit rap song.

“I absolutely like it. It has my stamp of approval. I love the idea of an artist taking something and reinterpreting it and making it their own. And it’s also with a country theme, right? We need more unifying moments like that. It represents something better… something better something greater, ” LL Cool J says.

He goes on to say maybe one day he and Cyrus will perform the song together.

Billy Ray Cyrus Shares Thoughts on Cover

This is the 17th album release for the 59-year old that came out earlier this month. “The Singin’ Hill Sessions – Mojave” is an EP, with only 5 songs. However, it does include the cover of “Momma Said Knock You Out”.

Cyrus says, “It’s kinda a full circle moment of my life, the music, the songs, musicianship and it’s called “Mojave” since we did most of the tracks in the Mojave Desert.”

Additionally, Cyrus spoke to Rolling Stone on the cover and his decision to cover LL Cool J’s iconic rap classic.

“I’ve always loved that song,” Cyrus says, “as well as fellow Kentucky native, Muhammad Ali. And just the concept of persistence and believing in yourself. Countrifying it was a joy and I feel like this song is the next segment of my circle following ‘Old Town Road.’”
