‘Blue Bloods’ Star Will Estes Appeared in One of Michael Landon’s Classic Series Twice

Years before he became one of the stars of the hit CBS drama “Blue Bloods,” Will Estes worked on another very popular drama.

Estes is currently starring as Jamie Reagan on the popular show about a family of New York City Police Department officers. He has appeared in the series since it first hit the small screen in 2010.

However, his role on “Blue Bloods” is not the first time he appeared on a popular drama. In fact, during the late 1980s, he appeared in a show that starred one of the most beloved stars in the history of television.

According to, that show was “Highway to Heaven.” And, of course, that beloved star was Michael Landon. In this drama, Landon played an angel named Jonathan Smith who required to come to Earth. While here, Smith was tasked with doing what he could to help people who were in need. The show aired from 1984 until 1989.

Will Estes, who was born in 1978, made his first appearance on “Highway to Heaven” in 1988. He played an 11-year-old character named Louis. This episode was titled “The Correspondent.”

The future “Blue Bloods” star returned to the “Highway to Heaven” the following year. This time he played the 7-year-old character, Samuel Hays. This 1989 episode was titled “Merry Christmas from Grandpa.”

His performances on “Blue Bloods” and “Highway to Heaven” are not the only places where you might have seen Will Estes. During his decades-long career the 42-year-old actor, has appeared on many other television shows and in films.

Some of his television work includes the series “The New Lassie,” “Baywatch,” “Step by Step,” and “Full House.”

He also appeared in the film “U-571,” which starred Matthew McConaughey, as Rabbit in 2000. And, he played Officer Simon Jansen in Christopher Nolan’s film, “The Dark Night Rises,” in 2012.

What Lies Ahead for the Character Played By Will Estes on ‘Blue Bloods’

When the first season of “Blue Bloods” was released by CBS in 2010, the character played by Will Estes had just started his career in the New York City Police Department. That character, Jamie Reagan, initially planned to become a lawyer. He even went to Harvard Law School. However, he decided to follow in the footsteps of his other family members and become a cop.

Flash forward to 2021. The popular crime drama concluded its 11th season in May. A 12th season is in the works. So, what could the future hold for Jamie Reagan and the members of his family?

“For now, we’re just gonna play probably Jamie’s promotion,” executive producer Kevin Wade told TV Insider. “If they said this show’s going to run for six more years, I’m guessing that Jamie may well be in 1PP before it was over – not necessarily as commissioner, but he seems like the guy who’s on his way up on that side of things.”

As fans of the show know, Jamie Reagan is now married to Edit “Eddie” Janko-Reagan. She is played by Vanessa Ray. There is speculation that she might get a promotion to NYPD detective during the 12th season.

Fans will just have to wait and see.
