Being Chevrolet’s most popular model, the Silverado has quite a legacy. Nevertheless, Chevy is going all out, with the 2022 version boasting impressive power and off-roading potential.
The Silverado 1500 is receiving an upgrade in the form of the Silverado ZR2. The pickup is getting a tweaked design and new model for 2022. These Silverados feature an all-new interior (LT and above) and a fresh, restyled grille.
The interior is reconfigured and includes a console shifter on trucks with front bucket seats. The dashboard sports a 12.3 digital instrument cluster and a 13.4-inch touchscreen. The touchscreen infotainment system has things like Google Assistant and Maps, but also Google Play. It’s dressed in premium materials too, such as open-pore wood and stainless steel speaker grates.
For off-road enthusiasts, the high-performance Silverado ZR2 may be what you’re looking for. It features unique exterior styling, a two-inch body lift, and the Silverado’s 420 hp 6/2-liter V8. In addition, it has a set of Multimatic Dynamic Suspensions Spool Valve dampers. These help make the vehicle more versatile, providing on-road comfort with extreme off-road capability.
The ZR2 also has front and rear electronic locking differentials, a uniquely tuned traction control system, and comprehensive underbody protection. There’s even a low-speed one-pedal driving feature. This engages the brakes as you lift off the throttle, making it easier when off-roading on rough terrain.
Interestingly, the Silverado’s V6 engine option is gone, but its base four-cylinder engine received an upgrade. The increased torque helps increase maximum towing to 9,600 pounds. There’s also a traveling package that includes a new differential and cooling system that brings its tow rating to around 13,300 pounds.
Unfortunately, pricing information remains unknown, but GM should reveal it as the pickup’s 2022 launch nears.
General Motors Announces Chevrolet Bolt Recall And Instructions For Owners Receiving Replacement Modules
Though the new Silverado is an exciting announcement, GM has its hands full with another of its models. Initially announcing a recall for roughly 70,000 Chevrolet Bolts, last month Chevy issued a recall on all Bolts from 2019 to 2022.
The organization provided a press release on August 20 stating in rare circumstances, the models possess two manufacturing defects. The defects are a torn anode table and folded separator. Both are present in the same battery, thus increasing the chance of it catching fire. GM reports it will replace the battery modules in EV and EUV models with new modules.
For owners receiving the replacement modules, GM issued specific instructions for the vehicle. “Set their vehicle to a 90 percent state of charge limitation using Target Charge Level mode. If customers are unable to successfully make these changes or do not feel comfortable making the changes, GM is asking them to visit their dealer to have these adjustments completed.” GM also advises owners charge their Bolts more frequently.
Providing an 8-year/100,000-mile limited warranty for replaced modules, hopefully, nothing like this happens with GM’s other models.
