The restaurant world is full of rivalries. Some of those rivalries have raged for decades. From time to time, they blossom into full-blown wars. We’re tentatively on the other side of the Great Chicken War. Now, as that dust settles without a real victor, another rivalry has risen. However, neither of the establishments has a hand in it. Instead, their patrons have taken to social media to draw battle lines. Today, fans of Waffle House and those who love Cracker Barrel are locked in a heated debate.

It seems that just about everyone has a favorite. However, when you really look at it, comparing Waffle House to Cracker Barrel is like comparing apples to oranges. There are some similarities, but the differences between the two are vast. Chief among those is the atmosphere.

For instance, if you go to Waffle House, there’s no telling what you’ll walk into. It might be empty. Then again, there might be a line that wraps around the building. Sometimes, you’ll walk right into a raging fight with customers coming over the counter. Some would say that the mild amount of danger makes the smothered and covered fare taste that much better.

On the other hand, you know just what you’re going to get when you walk into a Cracker Barrel. First, you’ll walk through their quaint country store. Then, someone will lead you to a comfortable table. However, if you have to wait to be seated, it isn’t a big deal. You can just sit on the porch in a rocking chair and play checkers. It’s obvious that Cracker Barrel and Waffle House are shooting for two different things.

Waffle House and Cracker Barrel: Pros and Cons

One of the biggest pros about Waffle House is the hours. You can stop in for breakfast in the morning. On the other hand, you can take an Uber there after a concert, stumble in half-lit, and order a burger, hashbrowns, and some of the best coffee ever served at a restaurant. You’re not going to do that at Cracker Barrel.

Cracker Barrel, on the whole, is classier than Waffle House. It doesn’t matter if you’re on a date, going to lunch after church, or meeting your in-laws for dinner, Cracker Barrel is the safer choice. On top of that, they now serve mimosas. So you can have a light cocktail to wash down their killer chicken fried steak. Additionally, you’re not going to get a pumpkin pie latte at WH.

Here at Outsider, we’re split right down the middle. We’re all for some good food and family atmosphere. At the same time, it’s hard to beat late-night meals with friends after some live music.
