Previously, Amazon’s infamous founder Jeff Bezos held the title for the world’s richest man. He capped his net worth at a jaw-dropping $200+ billion. However, Bezos rapidly lost that title as Tesla CEO Elon Musk nears an unheard of net worth of $300 billion. On Monday alone, the multibillionaire added a staggering $36 billion to his wealth.

According to CNBC, Musk’s $36 billion acquisition came after the announcement that Hertz plans to order 100,000 vehicles. The goal is to grow its electric rental fleet by next year. The announcement resulted in a 12.7% spike in Musk’s shares and bringing his total net worth to $289 billion.

Further, the news outlet reports the massive jump in Musk’s fortune was the largest in the history of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Even more noteworthy, the $36 billion acquisition is equivalent to the entire net worth of the world’s 34th richest person. Following the jump in his net worth, Musk pulls ahead of the world’s former richest person as $100 billion marks a vast difference between himself and Bezos. The latter’s current net worth sits at a total of $193 billion as of Monday.

Further, Elon Musk’s net worth surpasses even Bill Gates by $150 billion. Overall, the multibillionaire’s net worth marks a historic milestone for our planet’s most wealthy people.

Elon Musk’s Net Worth Tops Out Toyota Market Cap

Elon Musk’s net worth has pulled far ahead of his fellow billionaires. However, his net worth continues to shock as it’s surpassed the market caps of major brands. Namely, he’s surpassed auto brand Toyota, the world’s second-largest automaker. Currently, Toyota’s value sits at $283 billion.

Additionally, Musk’s own auto brand, Tesla, initially surpassed Toyota in value in 2020. Current statistics show the electrically powered auto brand surpassing $1 trillion in value.

CNBC provided context as the company has now joined the ranks of other popular international brands. These include, of course, Amazon, as well as Microsoft and Apple.

The World’s New Richest Man Trolls Jeff Bezos

Amazon’s Jeff Bezos has received a lot of flack throughout the length of the pandemic and beyond. As the now-second richest individual in the world, the public has aggressively critiqued the multibillionaire for the poor conditions in which Amazon employees work and the hardly-livable wages they endure internationally.

Now, he’s receiving more flack from one of his contemporaries since Elon Musk snatched the title for the world’s richest person. The Tesla CEO, following his recent victory over his fellow multi-billionaire, plans to boast of his new title, promising to send Bezos an assortment of second-place prizes.

“I’m sending a giant statue of the digit ‘2’ to Jeffrey B., along with a silver medal,” the world’s richest person told Forbes.
