Footage from an August 12 traffic stop shows disarray inside the back of the van Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie were traveling in; during their cross-country camping trip this summer.
The footage was recorded by Utah police bodycam footage following a 911 report of a domestic dispute on August 12; leading to the officers stopping Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie’s van near Arches National Park.
The video, which shows the officers as they encountered an eerily calm Laundrie and an upset and sobbing Petito has made its way around social media since Petito was reported missing earlier this month.
The eerie footage gives a glimpse of the couple’s bags, their bedding; and various other belongings, scattered throughout the back of the vehicle. The items are in clear disarray as officers interview Laundrie during the traffic stop.
Gabby Petito Footage Telling Two Very Different Stories
This footage is vastly different from footage Gabby Petito shares of the same van; just days later.
In an August 19 video, Gabby Petito shows off the van, giving viewers a glimpse into the back. The footage shows the back-end area that contains neatly stacked containers.
The footage, which was shared by the New York Post shares snippets from Petito’s #VanLife journey posts portray the vehicle’s backspace as a very tidy albeit tight space.
There is also a makeshift bed, neatly folded blankets, pillows, and even some fun decorations hung up on the sides; such as an iguana statue holding onto a bouquet of wildflowers.
In the footage, Gabby Petito even shows off some of the converted van’s features, dishing some food on a fold-out table located in the back of the van. A far cry from the footage shown in the August 12 police cam footage.
“The Gentleman Was Slapping the Girl”
The police report of the August 12 footage describes Gabby Petito as the aggressor in the reported dispute. However, new information has come to light since this statement.
The new information states that the caller who reported the incident did so after witnessing a man slapping a young woman.
“We drove by and the gentleman was slapping the girl,” the caller said; in a recently released audio recording.
“He was slapping her?” the dispatcher asked in response.
“Yes, and then we stopped,” the caller explains.
“They ran up and down the sidewalk,” the recording continues. “He proceeded to hit her, hopped in the car and they drove off.”
Reported Missing Days After Boyfriends Return
Twenty-two-year-old Gabby Petito was reported missing by her family on September 11. This was ten days after Laundrie had returned to his Florida home in the couple’s van, without Petito.
On Sunday, a body believed to be Petito’s was found in Wyoming’s Bridger-Teton National Forest.
Laundrie has since disappeared from his Florida home. Authorities are continuing their search of the area in an effort to track down the missing man.
