A Texas wedding took a dangerous turn after the groom suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. One of the guests at the wedding reportedly gunned down the groom.
While attempting to track down the suspect, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office ran into a major snag. Witnesses, including the bride, reportedly refused to cooperate with the investigation, Daily Mail reports.
Last Thursday, law enforcement officers responded to reports of gunshots on the 16800 block of Anna Green Street. However, they were initially unable to locate the victim.
The police found the groom in critical condition at a residence across the street. A medical team transported him via helicopter to the Memorial Hermann hospital.
The groom underwent surgery. The groom is now in recovery and in stable condition.
Deputies on the scene detained three people who were with the groom. They attempted to gather information from the witnesses. However, they reportedly did not cooperate with the authorities.
Police Captain John Shannon spoke with ABC 13 about the incident. “Witnesses on scene thus far have been uncooperative but the investigation is active,” Shannon said. “People at the house have been detained until we can get their witness statements.”
Investigators believe the suspect opened fire on the groom after getting into an altercation. When police responded to the scene, the suspect was not there.
Deputies found the bride and other guests waiting on the street outside the house upon arrival. One witness recalls the bride looking for the shooter after hearing gunshots.
“It was loud, really loud,” a neighbor tells Click2Houston. “My daughter ran into my room and said, ‘Mom, there’s shots, there’s shots, there’s shots.’ So we came outside to see what was going on and we saw the bride come out and she started yelling, “Where is he? Where is he? I need to find him.'”
