Today, country music star Scotty McCreery celebrates his 27th birthday. Sure, most know that he won the tenth season of American Idol, but some facts about the heartthrob might be news to you.

The singer’s parents were on the way to the hospital when they decided to make a last-minute switch to their baby on the way’s name from Evan to Scott.
Scotty McCreery might be musically inclined, but he also has the athletic bone in his blood. His cousin on his mother’s side is baseball Hall of Famer Jim “Catfish” Hunter.
“I tell people we were closely related. He was my uncle.”
If you plan on setting out a snack for McCreery, he is very specific about his favorite. He loves Cheez-Its, but more importantly, the reduced-fat Cheez-Its.
After he won American Idol, he only needed one more class to graduate from Garner High School. However, the star returned to school because he said that being around longtime friends and family keeps him humble. He also didn’t want to miss out on senior year traditions like Prom and Friday night football games.
Upon graduating from high school, he initially decided to major in engineering at N.C. State University, but switched to communications and public relations. Both of the majors would help him with his music career.
Although McCreery grew up in Garner, North Carolina, he is one-quarter Puerto Rican. His paternal grandfather was in the U.S. Air Force when he met his wife Paquita, who is from Puerto Rico. The couple has been married now for 57-years and had three children together.
His debut album, Clear as Day, which was released in 2011, went platinum in the United States, and his 2012 Christmas album went gold. In 2017, McCreery became the only country music artist in Country Aircheck/ Mediabase history to chart a song without the backing of a record label with his song “Five More Minutes.”
