Kelly Preston, actress and wife of John Travolta, died on Sunday morning. The Jerry Maguire star was 57.
The Hollywood leading lady passed after battling breast cancer for two years. Travolta, 66, took to Instagram to share the heartbreaking news.
Travolta posted a photo of his late wife with the caption: “It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer. She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many. “
The Grease actor continued by thanking the medical staff involved in Preston’s treatment. “My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side,” he wrote.
In the wake of her passing, Travolta plans to spend time with his two kids. “I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while,” he wrote. “But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal.”
A representative of the family spoke about Preston’s battle with breast cancer. “Choosing to keep her fight private, she had been undergoing medical treatment for some time, supported by her closest family and friends,” the family rep tells People. “She was a bright, beautiful, and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched. Her family asks for your understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”

She was born on October 13, 1962 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Preston studied acting at the University of Southern California. She launched her acting career in 1985. After several minor television shows, Preston’s first major role was in Mischief.
Over the next few years, Preston starred in a number of big films. Some of those titles included SpaceCamp (1986), Twins (1988), Jerry Maguire (1996), and For Love of the Game (1999). Her final film credit was for the 2018 film Gotti. In the movie, she portrayed Victoria Gotti, wife of Mafia boss John Gotti. Her husband, Travolta, portrayed John Gotti.
Preston and Travolta wed on September 5, 1991. At the time, she was two months pregnant with their son, Jett. The couple celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary last September.
Preston leaves behind her husband John Travolta and their children, Ella, 20, and 9-year-old son Benjamin. Their son Jett passed at age 16 in January 2009.
