Actress Kirstie Alley took to social media over the weekend to express her support for President Donald Trump’s reelection bid.
“I’m voting for @realdonaldtrump because he’s NOT a politician,” she tweets. “I voted for him four years ago and shall vote for him again for this reason. He gets things done quickly and he will turn the economy around quickly. There you have it folks there you have it.”
Alley Comments Garner Attention
Alley is now facing backlash for the tweet from people who oppose her political views. Responses to her tweet came fast and furious.
Speaking to Fox News Host Sean Hannity, Alley says she is doing her best to handle the criticism appropriately.
“They always attack me on the same three things,” she tells Hannity. “I’m a fat, irrelevant Scientologist. But this has been going on for 40 years, so I’m sort of prepared.”
Not long after her Trump-supporting tweet went live, the backlash began. After receiving criticism from social media users, Alley tweeted once more to encourage voters to “stick to their guns.”
“Stick to your guns,” she says. “Not always easy to be under fire but always easier than going against your own integrity. And JUST REMEMBER: If it takes thousands to try and bring you down, you must be one powerful Mfer. Love Wins.”
Alley tells Hannity that she does her best to shrug off insults hurled by random social media users.
“That really is basically all they have to offer,” she says. “I honestly don’t take it too personally because I feel that people are angry and they have the right to say what they want to say and I have the right to block them if I don’t like the way they speak.”
During the interview, Alley also reiterated her lack of trust for “career politicians” and plans to vote for Trump because she believes the president isn’t one.
“[Trump] has more energy than any human being I’ve actually ever seen,” she says. “I think the big thing that I was mentioning in that tweet was that I’m really tired of career politicians.”
