In absolutely devastating news, a man was killed when a beer keg exploded during his own birthday party.

The Brazilian man, Gilson do Nascimento, was excitedly going all out in his celebration for his 43rd birthday. He was killed last week on September 17. He was hosting a party in Campo Bom, which is in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul.

According to the New York Post, the party had started and Nascimento realized that the beer wouldn’t come out of the beer keg he had rented for the event. As a locksmith shop owner, Nascimento decided he would try to fix the beer barrel so the party could go on.

Man Killed by Exploding Beer Keg

Apparently, there was only foam coming out of the device at the time. According to his niece, Nascimento called the rental company and shared what was going on. The company gave him some instructions on how to start fixing the keg until a person could come out to help.

He began tinkering away at the keg, surrounded by his family and friends. Suddenly, the metal keg blew up and sent shards of sharp and deadly metal soaring directly to Nascimento’s head.

The niece, who remained anonymous with the news outlet, said that the family is “very shaken” over what happened that day. She also shared that Nascimento had spent six years battling cancer. At one point, he spent two months recovering in the ICU.

As of now, eyes are turned over to the brewing company, as well as the delivery company, that provided the keg. It’s possible that there was some kind of malfunction or issue with the keg that was given to Nascimento.

There’s also a bit of tension between the family and the company that supplied the keg. While the family claims Nascimento was told to start fixing the keg, the company is saying the opposite. Allegedly, he was told not to touch the broken keg and to wait until the technician arrived to repair it.

When the technician did arrive, Nascimento had already unfortunately passed away at the scene of the accidental death. The entire investigation regarding the situation is still ongoing.

Boston University Professor Dies Falling Through Staircase

Another person who had an unexpected and tragic accident that led to death was Boston University professor, David K. Jones. He taught at the university’s School of Public Health.

He was out for a run last Saturday when he approached a set of stairs right next to the JFK MBTA station in Boston.

According to NBC Boston, Jones fell through the rusted staircase 20 feet to his death. Now, the community is coming together to mourn the loss of the professor who is leaving behind a wife and three children.

The campus is having a memorial service on Thursday at 3 p.m. An investigation is currently underway related to stairs, which were apparently left with no repairs for 20 months. The top and bottom of the stairs had been blocked off, but somehow Jones mistakenly ran through anyways.
