Election day is an emotional one for Meghan McCain as it is her first since the loss of her father, former presidential candidate John McCain.
Meghan, a new mother, took to social media to express her thoughts on her father’s passing and the state of America’s political realm.
“My first election day without my dad is my first with my daughter Liberty,” McCain tweeted on Tuesday. “Feeling overwhelmed with nostalgia and warm sentiments about the circle of life. I love election day and always will. Do not let ugly fleeting politics remove what is beautiful about our democratic process.”
She concludes the tweet with a heart, Statue of Liberty, and American Flag emojis. She continued her touching sentiment on other social media platforms.
“I am so proud to be an American and have the privilege of living in the greatest country that has ever exist. No president or time or political party will ever change that. In the words of dad, ‘We are all Americans and we fight, we never surrender.’ Both Biden and Trump will still be in their political realms, and the rest of us will be in ours. They will both be doing their thing while you and I stand together, laugh together, learn together, support together, grieve together and pray together.”
McCain Remembered by Daughter and Wife
Meghan’s mother and John McCain’s wife also took to Twitter to express her feeling on election day without her husband. She uses the tweet to encourage others to vote.
“This is my first election without my husband @senjohnmccain and I miss him so much,” she says in the tweet. “Please honor his legacy by voting today.”
Cindy McCain, a life-long republican, recently made headlines by endorsing Democratic Presidential Candidate Joe Biden, according to News Week.
“My husband John lived by a code: country first,” she tweets. “We are Republicans, yes, but Americans foremost. There is only one candidate in this race who stands up for values as a nation, and that is @JoeBiden”
