Mel Gibson spent a week in the hospital after contracting the coronavirus. The Oscar Winner came down with the virus back in April.

A rep for the 64-year-old actor shared a statement about his experience. “He tested positive in April and spent a week in the hospital,” the rep tells People. “He was treated with the drug Remdesivir, while in the hospital, and has tested negative numerous times since then as well as positive for the antibodies.”

Doctors treated Gibson at a Los Angeles, California hospital.

No information surfaced at this time as to whether Gibson’s girlfriend, Rosalind Ross, also contracted the virus. The two began dating in 2014. In 2017, the couple welcomed their first child, Lars Gerard.

More Hollywood Stars Who Contracted COVID-19

In addition to Mel Gibson, a handful of major Hollywood stars also came down with the virus. “Forest Gump” star Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson also contracted the coronavirus. While Gibson kept his bout with the virus private, Hanks recently opened up about getting COVID-19 back in March.

Hanks spoke about the symptoms that he and Wilson experienced at the time. “My wife lost her sense of taste and smell, she had severe nausea, she had a much higher fever than I did,” Hanks, 64, tells The Guardian. “I just had crippling body aches, I was very fatigued all the time and I couldn’t concentrate on anything for more than about 12 minutes.”

Because of his pre-existing health conditions, Hanks initially considered himself high-risk. “When we were in the hospital, I said, ‘I’m 63, I have type 2 diabetes, I had a stent in my heart — am I a red flag case?’

During his time in the hospital, Hanks says that his body temperature staying in a healthy spot gave him hope. “But as long as our temperatures did not spike, and our lungs did not fill up with something that looked like pneumonia, they were not worried,” Hanks said.

Despite the health scare, Hanks says he remained calm. “I’m not one who wakes up in the morning wondering if I’m going to see the end of the day or not. I’m pretty calm about that.”
