Paramount Networks’ “Yellowstone” has fans in shock after last night’s new episode. Kevin Costner’s character, John Dutton, revealed major news about Jamie (Wes Bentley) to close Sunday’s show.
WARNING: ‘Yellowstone’ SPOILERS BELOW
Sunday’s episode, titled “The Beating,” addressed a big fan theory that’s been around since the series started. It is revealed that Costner’s John Dutton is not Jamie’s father. He was adopted and his true father is a convicted murderer.
Jamie winds up experiencing an identity crisis after obtaining his birth certificate from his assistant. The documents show that his father was imprisoned for murdering his mother. Costner’s Dutton and his wife then swooped in to take Jamie in.
Jamie then informs his assistant that he wants to if Garrett Randall paroled. “If he has, I want his address, his phone number, his place of employment, everything,” he says.
A tense moment then unfolds as Jamie goes to confront John. After a heated exchange, John tells Jamie, “You can sit in my living room or you can leave it. Those are your options.”
John explains that Jamie’s real mother never “got the chance to love you.” He then says that he and his wife were the ones who cared or Jamie. “I protected you, I guided you, I loved you, you can call me whatever you want, Jamie, but I will call you son, because I have earned the right, it is the hardest thing I have ever done,” John says.
He continues by telling Jamie that he gets to make a decision about moving forward. “You are a resourceful man so I am sure you can find him and you can look at his black f—ing heart, his rotten soul,” John says. He then continues by adding: “You can look into his eyes, Jamie and you get to choose. You can choose who you call father.”
“Yellowstone” airs on Paramount Network on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET.
